Whenever I found out I was pregnant I automatically thought of all the cute baby grows and cuddly toys I was going to get to pick for Squish. What I didn’t think of was the fact that very quickly my jeans were going to get too tight and my boobs were going to start swelling a massive amount. Pregnancy can be a rather uncomfortable time so it’s the perfect excuse to treat yourself to some new clothes and maternity bits and bobs to make sure you’re super comfy. JoJo Maman Bébé was the first store I headed to in a hunt for clothes for me and the bump and it did not disappoint!
Maternity Leggings
One of the first things that got me during early pregnancy was bloating! I wear tight jeans and leggings everyday and by week 6 of my pregnancy the bloating was so bad that all I wanted was to live in pyjama bottoms! The feeling of tight leggings pushing in on my stomach made me feel even more nauseous than I already did. I headed off to JoJo Maman Bebe in Belfast to try on some maternity leggings. I have been living in their comfy cotton leggings ever since! You also save £5 if you buy more than two pairs at once (which I obviously did because they’re the most comfy things ever!) I now have two black pairs and a navy pair* and I’m sure I’ll be stocking up on some cropped pairs when the weather gets warmer too. Don’t be scared to buy maternity clothes early, they made me so much more comfortable and comfort is the most important thing in my opinion during pregnancy. Plus as they’re over bump leggings they’ve been keeping me extra warm in this freezing cold weather!
Maternity Bras
The next thing that hit me was how much my boobs grew and how fast! They seemed to stay fairly normal until around week 7 and then suddenly as if it happened over night they ballooned and became so uncomfortable and sore! Anything brushing against them was painful and I loathed putting on a bra in the morning. I actually had to revert to comfy Calvin Klein cotton bralets just so I didn’t cry at the feeling of a normal bra but they weren’t giving me the support I needed. I picked up two different bras from JoJo’s, a cotton bra with a racer back that can also be used as a sleep bra (and it is the comfiest thing ever!) and a seamless bra with a little more support for a work day when I’m running around a lot after little kids. Both of the bras I picked up also have the option to be used a nursing bras so I’m hoping I’ll get a lot of wear out of them through pregnancy and after Squish is born.
Pregnancy Pillow
As soon as I found out I was expecting I started researching the perfect pregnancy pillow. I wanted to invest in one that I could use throughout my pregnancy as well as for feeding. The Summer Infant Maternity Body Support Pillow was rated top on so many top ten lists that I had to pick it. Not only can it be used for pregnancy and feeding but also to help your little one sit up as it grows and even as a comfy little nook for toddlers to read or play in. I had the best nights sleep ever the first night I tried my pillow and I don’t see it leaving my bed any time soon!
Maternity Tankini
Although I haven’t used this tankini just yet, it’s going to be a staple for me. My midwife and I have discussed exercise during pregnancy and have agreed that I’m going to go swimming atleast once a week if not twice a week once my first trimester is finished. Swimming has so many benefits both for mum and baby during pregnancy and it’s something I really enjoy so I can’t wait to get started. I absolutely love this stripe tankini, it’s perfect to wear now when I don’t really have a bump (though you’d think I do with all the bloating!) but there’s so much space left to grow and as long as I don’t get massive I’m hoping this will last me my whole pregnancy and into the early days when I plan to take my little one to new born swim classes.
Giraffe Comforter
You may have seen this cute little guy in my announcement photos last week. I know it’s slightly too early to be buying things for my little squish but I just couldn’t resist! Giraffe’s are my favourite animal, so I’m hoping my little one with love them just as much as mumma! This little comforter is suitable for newborns and I plan to give it to Squish at the hospital after he or she is born.
I hope you enjoyed this little early maternity haul! I’m sure I’ll be picking up lots more throughout my pregnancy, JoJo Maman Bébé have so many gorgeous pieces. I can’t wait to get some dresses for the summer when I’ll be particularly huge!
